Recent trends clearly shows that freelance is the next big thing to consider. In Ten years freelancers are expected to make up 50% of the workplace.

Some Facts…

In the past few decades, the work landscape has radically changed. We see that our previous generation will work in the same business for thirty years, retire and receive a pension forever. Most likely in their lifetime they may have worked for a couple of companies.

Companies are no longer loyal to their employees

What does this mean for employees at work or for freelancers? a LOT

It means you can become unemployed faster than you think. Or you could become one of the most wanted freelancers in the next few years.

The average worker generally has ten jobs before they turn 40, and anywhere from 12-15 jobs on average in their lifetime (Bureau of Labor Statistics).

Some Freelancing Facts

  • A third of the US workforce has done freelance work at some point in their career.
  • 61% of freelancers went into this type of work by choice.
  • When in need, 25% of freelancers can find work within a day.
  • In 2019, freelancing contributed $1 trillion to the US economy.

  • There are 12 million registered freelancers on Upwork.
  • Content writers earn $15–$80 per hour on Upwork.
  • Developers earn $15–$150 per hour on Upwork.
  • Graphic designers earn $20–$150 per hour on Upwork.

All industries are affected by these changes to the work landscape: retail, manufacturing, white-collar industries, blue-collar industries, and a whole range of creative professional industries.

No one can resist these changes. Freelancing stays here, of course

Let’s discuss about the reason for the recent popularity of freelancing.

1. Increase in freelancing opportunity

To reduce overhead costs and manage uncertainty, companies are reluctant to hire full-time workers and are trying to replace them with temporary workers or freelancers.

Companies are taking advantage of this because they save a lot of money on employee benefits and healthcare costs. Because of this sudden change, there are many freelancing Opportunities.

Additionally, the sudden rise in freelance sites, like Upwork, Freelancer.com, Fiverr has become a catalyst for the popularity of freelancers. These sites act as aggregators for all freelancing  jobs and bring them to freelancers at the click of a button.

2. Earning is on par with the effort

Perhaps the most attractive  art of freelancing is that YOU GET TO MAKE AS MUCH AS YOU WANT.

As per Roshan Perera (Freelancinghacks.com)

“Freelance coders and software developers earn up to $1,000 per hour.”
” Freelance copywriters earn over $250 per hour. (Freelancing Hacks)”
” Junior software developers earn a base salary of around $119,000 while senior software developers earn around $150,000. “
” Freelance graphic designers earns more than $85 per hour on major freelance sites such as UpWork and PeoplePerHour. “

When there is no earning limit, the generation of millennials will be ready to earn in no time and freelance will be the best way to do it.

3.The Perfect work life balance.

The most important reason I consider Freelancing is because it gives you freedom of life. You work according to your convenience. Freelancing builds bridges for a better quality of life and the new generation is understanding its importance.

Freelancers are simply happy without the noice of “office politics, dysfunctional meetings, undesirable atmosphere”.

4. Freelancing Ensures Better Productivity

Freelancers often work from their place and are more productive than regular employees. They often save time for travel and can focus more on work.

One study shows that working from home improves work performance by 13% and the company also saw a $2,000 increase in annual profit after letting employees work from home.

(Stanford Graduate School of Business)In 2014, Americans spend 1.8 trillion minutes (29.6 billion hours) commuting to work. Remote work can cut commuting times to zero. (Nasdaq)

5. Job Security! What is that?

Being a freelancer prepares for all the uncertainties. There is no so-called employment security.

In other words, freelancers know what’s coming. So they are better prepared.

Meanwhile, traditionally busy people may experience rude awakenings.

Freelancing means you control whom you work with and what you do. And when you find the right people to work with, treat them with respect and friendliness.

Don’t be scared to explore freelancing. The best way to start freelancing is to do it part time at first  and create your base in the freelancing market.

Success! You're on the list.
